Phyllis Maxine StatesPhyllis Maxine States, 92, of North Manchester, died at 5:10 am, Friday, May 8, 2015 at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born Dec. 10, 1922 in Urbana, to Donald and Mabel (Harb) Weitzel.

Phyllis was a Wabash High School graduate. She married Charles B. States in Lebanon, on June 11, 1944; he died Aug. 22, 2004. She was a loan officer at Henry County Savings and Loan, and treasurer and bookkeeper at the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle where she was a longtime member and was also an active member of North Manchester United Methodist Church. She was also a member of P.E.O. more than 50 years at North Manchester and New Castle. Phyllis and her husband lived in New Castle from 1949 to 2002 when they relocated to Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.

She is survived by her two sons: David N. States, New Castle; and Jeffrey W. (Karen) States, Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Ashley (Paul) Kamoski, Framingham, Massachusetts; and Kimberly (Terry) States-Smith, Council Bluffs, Iowa; great grandson: Ryan Montoya; her sister: Miriam (LeRoy) Fierstos, North Manchester; and sister-in-law: Jo Weitzel, Wabash; several nieces, nephews, and their families. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter: Virginia Sue Frye; and her brother: William Weitzel.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, and one hour before the service, which will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Peabody Chapel, 400 W. 7th St., North Manchester.

Preferred memorials are to North Manchester United Methodist Church or Peabody Caring Circle.
