Devon Ogden

Russell Devon Ogden, 90, North Manchester, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. He was the youngest of three sons, born on Jan. 15, 1934, to Russell and Hazel (Ward) Ogden, in Ijamsville, Ind.

Seventy years ago, on June 27, 1954, he married Nancy R. Bright, and they raised two children, Bill and Linda, on the family farm in Laketon. Devon graduated from Laketon High School and excelled in basketball and ping-pong, helping to win two county championships. He was a farm boy at heart and was involved in farming growing up as a child to the present day.

In 1954, Devon discovered he had a knack for selling cars. He started selling cars for Snyder Ford in North Manchester and soon was on his own operating Quality Motors (a Rambler dealership), and later, Ogden Auto, selling late-model, used cars before retiring in 1995.

Devon was also a pilot and flew out of a small grass strip in Servia, taking friends and family on pleasure flights and business trips. Devon and Nancy enjoyed 29 years wintering together in Tucson, Ariz., and traveling to various places out West. His famous gardening and sense of humor will be missed by many.

The loving memory of Russell Devon Ogden will be forever cherished by his wife, Nancy Ogden, North Manchester; children, William “Bill” Ogden, Auburn, and Linda (Albert) Welch, Deland, Fla.; grandchildren, Katherine Welch, Rockwall, Texas, Natalie (Andrew) Cullip, Goshen, and Kayli (Dustin) Hensley, New Haven; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Cullip, Evelyn Cullip, Norah Cullip, Judah Hensley, Elon Hensley and Levi Hensley. Devon was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Lawrence and Billy Ogden.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with the Rev. Bobby Board officiating. Burial will be held at Laketon Cemetery in Laketon.
