John Sinak

John Sinak, 97, Fort Wayne, passed away on March 25, 2018, at Peabody Health Care in North Manchester.

He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Newark, N.J. He was the founder and owner of Sinak Builders in New Jersey, where he built luxury homes with his son, Jack Sinak, in the Scotch Plains, N.J. area.

Sinak and his first wife, Dorothy, had two children: son Jack (TR) Sinak and daughter Pamela (Dan) Kotovsky.

Sinak married his second wife, Joane, and they lived in Florida for many years. The Sinak’s moved to Fort Wayne, where they spent the last twelve years sharing time and memories with his family. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Kenny (Kendra) Sinak, Kelly (Paul) Dellagrotte and Katie Kotovsky, and often boasted of their lives. Sinak is survived by many cousins and family in New Jersey.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, he was abundantly proud of his service in World War II. He was trained as a soldier in the 10th mountain division and served in the mountains of Italy. Highlighting his service, he was proud to be selected to participate in the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight. The trip afforded him the opportunity to visit the war memorials in Washington DC.

Services will be held at noon, Saturday, March 31, at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne with Military Honors.

A meal will follow at the Sinak residence.

Marjorie L. Sincroft, 94, North Manchester, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018, in her residence.

She was born April 11, 1923, in North Manchester to Hazen and Marion (Gleason) Lautzenhiser.  On Dec. 20, 1941, she married Eldon Sincroft.

He passed away Jan. 11, 2009. She was a member of North Manchester United Methodist Church. Sincroft was a homemaker and owned and operated The Express Wagon, North Manchester for ten years.

She enjoyed baking, cooking and North Manchester history. She loved to help everyone out, especially her family.

She is survived by sons, William (Coleena) Sincroft, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Ron Sincroft, North Manchester; and John “Randy” (Marie) Sincroft, Warsaw; daughters, Nancy (Bob) Friddle, Warsaw; and Sherri (Bill) Trick, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Lautzenhiser, North Manchester; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

One grandchild, two brothers and one sister are deceased.

Family and friends may call from noon-2 p.m., Friday, March 30, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 30, at the funeral home. Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Robie Bradley

Robie Bradley, 89, Liberty Mills, passed away in his home at 7:37 a.m., April 2, 2018. One of seven children, Mr. Bradley was born on March 26, 1929, in Prater Fork, Floyd County, Ky. to Richard and Viola (Howard) Bradley.

Before joining the U.S Army in 1955, he worked for the Nickle Plate Railroad. After spending seven years in the Army and Army Reserves, he went back to work for the railroad. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and New York Centeral Railroad. Altogether he spent 20+ years working for the railroad companies. During his time of relaxation, he enjoyed watching old Westerns, but his passion and love was for his family.

The loving memory of Robie Bradley will be forever remembered by his surviving sons: Mike (Laura) Bradley, Liberty Mills; and Ernie (Janice) Bradley, North Manchester; two daughters: Linda (Ollie) Marshall, Claypool; and Yvonne (Alan) Lantz, Bluffton; two brothers: Hub (Sharon) Bradley, North Manchester; and Norval Bradley, Calif.; twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Viola Bradley; one daughter, Patsy Dale; one granddaughter Regina Marks, who passed away in 2016; three brothers, Aaron, Jess and Ernest Bradley; and one sister, Cleo Price.

F. Earl Montel, 91, North Manchester, has gone home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Kosciusko County to Artie R. and Bertha (Beigh) Montel. He graduated from Leesburg High School in 1944. On Jan. 11, 1948, he married Phyllis E. Bolinger. She passed away Aug. 6, 2013. He was owner-operator of Montel Livestock Equipment for 30 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of Gideon’s International since 1962.

He is survived by daughters: Karen Sue (Walter) Burns, North Manchester; and Kathy Ann (Charles) Douglass, North Manchester; sisters: Bernice Fisher, Syracuse; Betty Yoder, Goshen; and Barbara (Gene) Rarick, New Paris; grandchildren, Shelly Leifer (David) Cunningham, North Manchester; Greg (Jill) Caudill, Fort Wayne; Chad Allen, North Manchester; Amy Jo Allen, Goshen; Shane (Kim) Burns, Wabash; Doug (Andrea) Douglass, Huntington; and Brian (Sara) Douglass, Huntington; and nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. One brother is deceased.

Donna Joan Metzger, 74, Claypool, passed away in her home with family and dear friends at her side Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

She was born Jan. 9, 1944, in Kosciusko County to Walter Leon and Tressie Amelia (Yoder) Blocher. On Jan. 1, 1964, she married Philip Dean Metzger. She was a homemaker and a member of Eel River Old German Baptist Church, Silver Lake. She enjoyed having company and entertaining.

Donna Metzger was a very generous and giving person. She was spontaneous and fun loving. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by her husband, Philip Metzger, Claypool; sons: Philip Metzger Jr., North Manchester; and David Metzger, Claypool; daughter, Carrie (Jim) Ash, La Mesa, Calif.; brothers: Danny (Michelle) Blocker, North Manchester; and Walter (Tana) Blocher, Pierceton; sisters: Dorthy Blocher, South Whitley; Joy (David) Wolf, Rossville; and Eileen (Bill) Cahill, Colfax; and ten grandchildren.

One brother, Arthur Blocher, died in 2017 and one sister, Rosadella Miller, died in 2011.

Doris M. Monroe, 97, North Manchester, passed away at 1:28 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born April 3, 1921, in Muskegon, Mich. to Sylvester and Irene (Mattox) Sunday.  On Dec. 23, 1941, she married Burr Monroe. He passed away in 1976.

She was a homemaker and a cook at Chester School, North Manchester. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church, Bippus.

She is survived by sons, Gary (Marsha) Monroe, North Manchester; and David (Bev) Monroe, Killgore, Texas; sister, Jean Pehr, Ludington, Mich.; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. One son and two grandchildren are deceased.

Joann Hoover, 89, North Manchester, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in Parkview Wabash Hospital, Wabash.  She was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Wabash County to Melvin and Trevah (Farley) Snell.

She graduated in 1947 from Chester High School, North Manchester. On April 24, 1948, she married Russell Hoover. He passed away Nov. 2, 2017. She was employed with Heckman Bindery for 30 years and retired in 1989. She was a member of West Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. Her happiest times were when her family was all together.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Kris) Hoover, Westfield; and Randy (Sandy) Hoover, Hilton Head, S.C.; daughter, Mrs. Frank (Nancy) Harris, Michigan City; brother, Bob (Sheila) Snell, Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Doris Snell, North Manchester; grandchildren: Amy (Eric) Stewart, Westfield; Ashley (Lance) Vogel, Indianapolis; Katie Hoover, Cincinnati, Ohio; Neil Harris, Warsaw; and Amy (Steve) Maull, Warsaw; and three great grandchildren: Cameron and Luke Stewart and Zoe Vogel. Also survived by grand dog, Harley.

One brother, DeWayne Snell, and two sisters, Lucille Walters and Louise Sroufe, are deceased.

He was born Dec. 11, 1979, in Wabash to Forrest and Mary (Chafin) Howard. He graduated from Manchester High School in 2000. He was formerly employed at Novae, North Manchester. He loved music and playing his guitar, spending time with his daughter and taking walks by the river. He was a kindhearted person.

He is survived by his parents, Forrest and Mary Howard, North Manchester; daughter, Baliegh Nicole Howard, North Manchester; and sisters: Shara L. (Ed) Eubank, Liberty Mills; Sandy R. Howard, North Manchester; and Gina A. (Tom) Sizemore, North Manchester.

Terissa Leann Roberts Williams, 19, Peru, formerly of Wabash, died at 8:43 a.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018, in rural, LaFontaine. She was born Jan. 18, 1999, in Rochester, to Michael D. Williams, Sr. and Diana (Roberts) Martinez.

Ms. Williams was a 2017 graduate of Wabash High School. She worked at Millwright Solutions in Wabash. She was a member of Potter’s House Ministry in Wabash. She enjoyed music, tennis, playing video games, taking selfies, and joking around. She loved her nieces, nephews, and animals.

She is survived by her father, Michael D. Williams, Sr., Wabash; and mother, Diana Martinez, Laketon; two brothers: Michael D. Williams, Jr., Wabash; and Trent Custer, Roann; sister, Tyanna Custer, North Manchester; grandmothers: Bernice Pickering, Wabash; and Pamela Hudson, Laketon; grandfather, Jim Roberts of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; and great grandmother, Julia Alderfer, Laketon. She was preceded in death by; her brother, Trever Williams; uncle, Buddy Williams; nephew, Owen Williams; and grandfathers, Ellis Pickering, Mac Williams, Merle Alderfer and Jim Bowman.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Terry Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-7 p.m., Friday, May 4 at the funeral home.

Gloria J. Miller, 94, Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

She was born July 10, 1923, in Atwood, to Charles A. Hammer and Grace Leedy Hammer. On Dec. 24, 1941, she was married to Ned E. Miller, who preceded her in death in 2004.

She graduated from Mentone High School and was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving her are two daughters, Sandra (Ed) Michaels, and LuAnn (David) Pope, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Olive Virginia Snyder

Olive Virginia Snyder, 89, LaFontaine, formerly of rural Roann, died at 1 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine.

She was born July 7, 1928 in Cass County, to Fenton and Gertrude (Bunnel) Culp.

She first married Charles Cole; he preceded her in death. She then married Paul Swihart in Plymouth on Nov. 22, 1965; he died Dec. 31, 1985. She then married Charles Snyder and he also preceded her in death. She was a retired farmer. She enjoyed custom butchering chickens, fishing, and working on the farm.

She is survived by four children: Roger (Lydia) Cole, Munster; Keith (Connie) Cole, North Manchester; Deborah (Steve) Day, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Chris Cole of Wabash; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Jane Cole, Wabash. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two children: Michael Cole and Paula Brocious; and her grandson, Jeremy Cole.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Peggy J. Metzger, 54, North Manchester, passed away at 6:18 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

She was born May 13, 1963 in Warsaw, to O.C. and Carolyn R. (Caverly) Jarrell. She graduated from Whitko High School in 1982.

She was a stay at home mom for several years and worked in production at Dexter Axle, North Manchester; and Advanced Assembly, Columbia City. She loved spending time with her family, pets and friends and enjoyed watching old shows, shopping, summertime and fountain drinks from Casey’s.

She is survived by her son: Nicholas A. (Aubrey Smith) Metzger, Columbia City; daughters: Jessica N. (Matthew) Long, South Whitley; and Sarah E. (Michael) Mettert, Auburn; brother: Tim L. Jarrell, Warsaw; sisters: Mary L. Jarrell, Kentucky; and Debbie D. Ramey, Michigan; grandchildren: Luke, Kate and Anna Long, all of South Whitley; and her loving pets: Lucy and Louie.

Deanna Newton, 71, passed away at 5 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, in her North Manchester, Indiana residence. She was born Jan. 27, 1947, in Fort Wayne to Ralph and Pauline (Fingerle) Miller.

A former Warsaw resident she resided in North Manchester for five years. She was a graduate of Silver lake High School and member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church of Warsaw. She retired from RR Donnelly and Sons in 2012 with 17 years of service as Material Handler.

Survivors include her children: Dawn Hill Hively and Sheri Braden, both of Warsaw; Scott Sandlin, North Manchester; and Shannon Arunhalt, Oregon; a brother, William Miller, Laketon; and grandchildren: Justin Braden, Warsaw; Chelsey Sandlin, South Whitley; Jack Keener, Pierceton; and Dakota Braden, Cory Sandlin and Ryan Hively, all of Warsaw; and a great grandson Ayden Barber, South Whitley. She was preceded by her father and a brother Robert Miller.

Calling hours are scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, in the funeral chapel with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Gloria J. Miller, 94, Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Norma A. Dome

Norma A. Dome, 96, formerly of Sidney, died Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since November of 2015.

She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Sidney, a daughter of the late Melvin O. and Florence (Nichols) Heeter. Her formative years were spent in the Sidney area. She graduated from the Sidney High School.

On April 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to George Harold Dome. They have always made their home in the Sidney area until becoming residents of Peabody. Mr. Dome died Oct. 31, 2016.

A full-time homemaker raising their four children, she also worked in the library at the Whitko Middle School for 18 years.

She was a member of the Collamer Christian Church and the Homemaker’s Extension Club. Family was her priority, and she loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid reader, she enjoyed a wide variety of books. During the growing season, she enjoyed raising flowers. In the fall, she would can jams and jellies.

Surviving are her four children: John H. (Shirley) Dome of Sidney; Ruth Ann Dome of Hyden, Ky.; Thomas (Nancy) Dome of South Whitley; and Nancy (Dennis) Patton of Franklin; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Trilby Heeter, a brother, Gerald Heeter and two sisters, Erma Fretz and Mildred Priser.

The funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Columbia City.

Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.

Fred Lee Miller, Jr.

Fred Lee Miller, Jr., 66, rural Lagro, died at 12:50 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born July 12, 1951, in Bardstown, Ky. to Fred Lee Miller Sr. and Eliza Bell (Foley) Case.

He was a 1969 graduate of Wabash High School. He was a US Marine Corp veteran that served in Vietnam.

He married Cynthia “Cindy” Bailey in Urbana, May 26, 1972. Fred Miller retired from United Technologies in Huntington. He was a member of the Wabash American Legion Post 15, the Wabash VFW Post 286, and the Hungtington County YMCA. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and working outdoors around the house. He also enjoyed his grandchildren’s activities and his two dogs, Sparkles and Jasper.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Miller, Lagro; two children: Angela (Mark) Miller, North Manchester; and Fred L. (Yenly) Miller III, Huntington; four grandchildren: Bryant Miller, Wabash; Chloe Miller, Asia Miller, and Ryland Miller, all of North Manchester; step-father, Jesse Case; and sister, Brenda (Bill) Story, both of Wabash, and several special step and half brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Stacey Lynn Miller, and his sister, Sheila Miller.

There will be a memorial service at a later date at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash.

Robert V. Grogg, 93, North Manchester and formerly of Beaver Dam Lake, passed at 9:35 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.

He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Roann, Indiana to George and Cora Grogg.

He married on Sept. 24, 1944, in South Bend to Jean Ann Stefanatos, she preceded him on May 12, 2018.

He was a self-employed contractor as well as being a truck driver. He also helped D.R. Smith Trucking where he checked the properties and ran parts.

He graduated from Gilead High School. He was a member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. He had in earlier years been a member of the Masonic Lodge and Mizpah Shrine where he was active in horse patrol. He had also been a member of DeMolay and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters: Diane and husband James Dials, Wabash; Patricia and husband Randy Straka, North Manchester; Laurie and husband Steven Hueston – Seymour, Tenn.; grandchildren: Jerilyn Ammons, Robby Dials, Jamie Dials, Mike Barker, Steve Barker, Eric Finnegan, and Cari Finnegan; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brothers William and wife Judy Grogg, Tennessee; and Charles and wife Sharon Grogg, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean Ann Grogg, and a brother Jean E. Grogg.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 2, at the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church 9798 West 1000 South Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating.

Private burial will take place at the Roann Community Cemetery, Roann.

There will be memorial visitation and gathering following the service at the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Peabody Retirement Community.

Dora A. Porter, 79, Wabash, died at 3 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester. She was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Auxier, Ky. to Taylor and Martha (Hatfield) Hyden.

She married Johnnie Porter; he died April 2, 2010. She was an aide at Vernon Manor Children’s Home.

She is survived by two sons, Terry (Melinda) Porter of Salyersville, Ky.; and Michael (Gale) Porter of Round Rock, Texas; four grandchildren: Courtney (Andrew) Banks of Pflugerville, Texas; William Taylor Porter, Caleb Grayson Porter, and Joseph Beckham Porter, all of Salyersville; great granddaughter, Harper Grace Banks, of Pflugerville; four brothers: Orville Hyden, William Lloyd Hyden, Harold Edward Hyden, and James Roy Hyden; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles Richard Hyden, and four sisters, Ola May Collins, Minnie Alice Wilcox, Jewel Giuricich, and Doris Cathleen Patrick.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 2, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Ann P. Bumgardner, 90, North Manchester, passed away at 5:02 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Lancaster, S.C. to Harper Burney and Mollie Geneva (Ghant) Garris. She first married Jackson Carter and he passed away in 1945. She then married William Bumgardner on Aug. 3, 1946. He passed away Aug. 25, 2008.

She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, North Manchester. She loved to crochet and was known for her baking. She loved her family, immediate and extended and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved God and her church.

She is survived by her son, William Bumgardner, Jr., Batavia, Ohio; daughter, Ola Geneva Wildridge, Wabash; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Two daughters, thirteen brothers and thirteen sisters are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, June 3, and one hour prior to service on Monday at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Services Monday will be held at 10 a.m., June 4, at McKee Mortuary. Pastor Sue Babovec will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
